Sorina Stallard
Sorina Stallard is the founder and director of DOR – Romanian Diaspora CIC, a UK-based community interest company working at the intersection of diaspora identity, civic participation, cultural education, research, wellbeing and economic inclusion.
With over 20 years’ experience in consultancy, programme and project management, Sorina brings professional discipline, governance, risk management and strategic delivery into community work. She currently works as a Programme Manager and has built a career leading complex programmes, managing stakeholders, mentoring teams and turning ideas into practical structures.
Her leadership is shaped by migration, public service, faith, ethics and a deep belief that people should not have to erase who they are in order to belong. Through DOR, she has developed initiatives including Cartea de Vineri, Map of Stories, Breathe & Repeat, EUROlab, CREDiBLE and Rooted and Thriving: Romanians in Birmingham, creating platforms for Romanian and wider migrant communities to be visible, connected, represented and able to contribute.
Sorina holds an MA with Merit in Corruption and Governance from the University of Sussex. Her civic work has included election integrity, anti-corruption advocacy, institutional dialogue and democratic participation for Romanians abroad. She has also contributed as an author and commentator in Romanian and British media, writing on diaspora identity, democracy, public life and belonging.
Her distinctive strength is her ability to move between worlds: Romanian and British, professional and civic, institutional and grassroots, strategic and deeply human. She leads with integrity, transparency and service, building trust where communities have often felt unseen or unheard.
In 2025, Sorina was recognised among the Top 100 Romanians in the World.

Dr Nicola Baird
Dr Nicola Baird is an independent art historian and curator affiliated with the Centre for the Study of the Networked Image at London South Bank University. She specializes in twentieth-century and contemporary British and European art and cultural history and is also passionate about European émigré histories and cultures. Previous exhibitions have included Fred Uhlman (Burgh House and Hatton Gallery, 2018), Czech Routes to Britain (Ben Uri Gallery, 2019), Becoming Gustav Metzger (Ben Uri Gallery, 2021), Knots: Jonny Briggs x Burgh House- Contemporary Interventions into an Historic House (Burgh House, 2021-2022) and ‘The line is an unreal thing’: Dorothy Mead and Edna Mann (LSBU, 2024). She is Section Editor for Open Cultural Studies and Editorial Assistant at The International Yearbook of Futurism Studies, both published by De Gruyter. She has given numerous public talks including at Ben Uri Gallery, the Fritz Ascher Society, LSBU and the University of Derby and has spoken at conferences in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, New Zealand, Portugal and the UK.
