We are an organisation of Romanians living in the UK that supports Romanian diaspora communities in the Midlands and nationally, in the UK & NI. We support & grow the potential of the Romanian communities abroad, offering opportunities for continuing education and integration. We deliver a broad range of virtual & physical projects with ‘unseen’ local communities, migration & integration through art.

Mission:
To represent interests of Romanian speakers, promote integrity and mutual understanding between the Romanian speakers from all territories living in the UK and the established communities, promoting goodwill and tolerance through its voluntary, professional and community network.
DOR – Romanian Diaspora CIC Limited was informally established in 2015 with the mission to unite and empower Romanian-speaking communities across the UK and Europe. Our organisation is driven by a commitment to preserving cultural heritage while fostering active citizenship and integration into local societies. The organisation’s constitution was adopted in May 2020 and reviewed in January 2025, reflecting our ongoing dedication to progress and adapting to the evolving needs of our community. The company was registered formally at the Companies House in July 2020.
Why We Exist: Our work is rooted in the shared experience of Romanians in the Diaspora, particularly those who lived through the historical challenges of the 1945-1989 period. The shared experience of displacement, cultural connections, anti-corruption and ethnic minority issues unites us, providing a foundation for our collective identity and purpose. We are proud to celebrate Romanian culture, traditions, history, gastronomy, and tourism while promoting integration, civic responsibility, and mutual understanding with our host societies. We remain steadfast in honoring our cultural and traditional links, recognizing the powerful bonds between Romanian-speaking communities regardless of geographical borders.
What Sets Us Apart
- Commitment to Community Unity: We are dedicated to bringing together Romanian-speaking communities from all backgrounds and across various regions in the UK and Europe. Our public forums are open to anyone with an interest in Romanian culture and communities, creating a space for shared learning, discussions, and collaboration, while respecting the values of diversity and inclusion.
- Cultural Preservation with Progress: By focusing on both preserving and celebrating Romanian culture and traditions, while simultaneously ensuring integration and mutual respect in host countries, we offer a unique blend of continuity and forward-thinking. Our Kaleidoscope Program, for example, fosters cultural identity and offers opportunities for Romanian speakers to engage with UK and EU communities, while continuous learning ensures personal, professional, and civic development.
- Ethical Foundation: At the core of our organisation is a steadfast commitment to integrity, collaboration, and cultural respect. We ensure that every initiative aligns with our mission of mutual understanding and goodwill. We emphasize transparency in decision-making, where decisions are made collaboratively with respect for all voices. This is achieved through a democratic process where majority decisions are respected and implemented (with a quorum of 2 out of 3 members).
- Bridging Gaps Across Generations: By engaging with people from all walks of life, we aim to bridge the gap between different generations and backgrounds. Whether working to bridge the historical experiences of the diaspora or addressing contemporary challenges faced by younger generations, DOR serves as a platform for understanding and shared growth.
- Educational and Civic Engagement: We actively foster civic engagement and active citizenship through lifelong learning initiatives, helping Romanian speakers in the UK and Europe access resources for integration, education, and employment. Our approach extends beyond cultural celebration, focusing on empowering individuals to fully participate in the civic life of their host societies.
- Connecting Academia and Civil Society: We are proud to bridge the gap between academic research, policy-making, and civic society by advocating for the needs and contributions of Romanian-speaking communities in the UK and Europe. Our close work with local authorities, universities, and cultural institutions ensures that Romanian voices are part of the conversation in shaping both policy and public discourse.
