SUMMARY:#CarteadeVineri in dialogue with Dr Tereza Stehlíková
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a thought-provoking evening with artist\, filmmaker\, and researcher Dr. Tereza Stehlíková\, as she reflects on the influence of Mircea Eliade’s The Sacred and the Profane on her artistic and academic journey. \nEliade’s seminal work explores the fundamental human need to make sense of the world through sacred time\, ritual\, and myth. Dr. Stehlíková will discuss how these ideas intersect with her own creative practice\, which focuses on sensory perception\, embodiment\, and lived experience. From her tactile explorations of memory to her multi-sensory film projects\, she will share how Eliade’s distinction between the sacred and the everyday continues to inspire and challenge contemporary approaches to art and research. \nThis intimate talk will offer insights into the dialogue between philosophy\, spirituality\, and sensory creativity\, inviting us to rethink how our bodies and senses shape our understanding of the world. The evening will conclude with an open Q&A\, giving the audience a chance to engage directly with Dr. Stehlíková’s unique perspective.

SUMMARY:#CarteadeVineri in dialogue with Ruxandra Trandafoiu
DESCRIPTION:Join Professor Ruxandra Trandafoiu for an illustrated talk and live Q&A exploring how media\, migration\, and diaspora have shaped contemporary understandings of identity and mobility in Eastern Europe. \nThis thought-provoking session will draw from her edited collections on the visualisation of migration in media and popular culture\, as well as her monograph The Politics of Migration and Diaspora in Eastern Europe. Trandafoiu offers both a focused look at the Romanian diaspora in the wake of 1989 and a comparative\, regional perspective on post-socialist East–West migration. \nThe talk will examine how migration is represented on screen\, how policy arrangements have shaped diaspora relations\, and how these intersect with broader debates around return migration and recent immigration into Eastern Europe. \nWhether your interests lie in media studies\, cultural politics\, migration policy\, or the lived experiences of diasporic communities\, this event provides a compelling opportunity to reflect on how movement and memory continue to shape the region—and our understanding of it. \nAttendees will be invited to participate in a live Q&A following the talk.

SUMMARY:#CarteadeVineri in dialogue with Mihai Buzea
DESCRIPTION:Mihai Buzea doesn’t just write about survival—he lived it. Gastarbeiter is his brutally honest\, darkly funny\, and unapologetically raw account of life as a Romanian migrant worker in London. From journalist to tree-cutter\, Buzea trades press credentials for a chainsaw\, navigating the underbelly of migrant labor with sharp wit and zero illusions. \nThis isn’t a sob story or a political manifesto—it’s a gripping\, first-hand dive into the chaos\, absurdity\, and grind of starting over in a foreign land. The book pulses with street-smart humor\, brutal truths\, and the kind of storytelling that hits you in the gut.

SUMMARY:#CarteadeVineri in dialogue with Anca Pârvulescu & Manuela Boatcă
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening where we attempt to bridge the humanities and social sciences alongside Anca Pârvulescu & Manuela Boatcă. \nHow are modernity\, coloniality\, and interimperiality entangled? Bridging the humanities and social sciences\, Anca Parvulescu and Manuela Boatcă provide innovative decolonial perspectives that aim to creolize modernity and the modern world-system. Historical Transylvania\, at the intersection of the Habsburg Empire\, the Ottoman Empire\, Austria-Hungary\, and Russia\, offers the platform for their multi-level reading of the main themes in Liviu Rebreanu’s 1920 novel Ion. Topics range from the question of the region’s capitalist integration to antisemitism and the enslavement of Roma to multilingualism\, gender relations\, and religion. Creolizing the Modern develops a comparative method for engaging with areas of the world that have inherited multiple\, conflicting imperial and anti-imperial histories.

SUMMARY:#CarteadeVineri in dialogue with Nicolae Rațiu
DESCRIPTION:“In 1950\, Ion Rațiu wrote ‘Moscow Challenges the World’ which has been recently republished.” An apt and timely discussion. \nMoscow Challenges the World\, recently republished with a new translation into Romanian and with forwards by Nicolae Rațiu and Prof Dennis Deletant with the title in Romanian ‘Moscova Provoaca Lumea’ is as the title suggests a studied analysis of Russia as a nation\, as a people\, as to why it is that their aggression is inevitable regardless of her ruling regime.
